KAHUKU — The Kahuku girls volleyball team kept its perfect season alive,
clinched the O’ahu Interscholastic Association’s Red East regular-season title,
and did it without one of its top players.
Nile Te’o had 16 kills and Ho’onani Apo added 11 — all in the final three
sets — as host Kahuku beat Moanalua, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14.
“To come through against Moanalua, it’s a big relief,” said Kahuku coach Uila
Fotu-Vendiola.
In the final set, Kahuku took a quick 4-0 lead, only to see Moanalua go up
7-6.
The Red Raiders got to match point at 14-12, but Na Menehune got kills from
Kaylee Ponce and Carsen Mata to send it to extra play.
The Red Raiders ended things with kills from Amanda Tonga and Elizabeth
Blake.
“It was exciting,” Te’o said. “I really wanted it. It was my last home game
… Senior Night. We are well-conditioned to stay in five sets.”
