The wrestling “post-season” is about to begin this Friday with the OIA Wrestling Dual Championships.  The event will be held at Moanalua High School starting at 5:30p.

Both the junior varsity and varsity squads for boys and girls will compete.

For the Boys, Kaiser and Pearl City claim the top seeds for the East and West respectively.  The Cougar wrestlers have an undefeated record of 10-0.

The girls leaderboard shows Kahuku and Kapolei holding the #1 seeds.

With the Red Raider and hurricane boys teams holding the #2 seeds, both schools could feasibly take the titles for each gender.

Obviously Farrington and Campbell will have something to say about that.

The Mililani Trojans proved their dominance in the OIA by winning the Red Championship over Roosevelt  2-0 on their home field.  They finish their league season with a 13-1-1 record and will go into the State Tournament as one of the top seeds.

The JN Automotive Boys State Soccer Tournament runs February 6-9 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.

By virtue of seeding, the Roosevelt boy’s soccer team , coming in as the East #5 Seed and a 5-5-2 record, were hoping to make the top 6 to qualify for the State Tournament.   Instead, the Roughriders had a remarkable run in the post season to finish in 2nd place.  Upsets of East #1 Seed Castle and West #2 Seed Aiea were part of the run.
 
Colin Lund scored his 3rd goal of the Playoffs, 11th of the year, for Mililani.  Lund, who also served as the kicker on the football team,  has had a terrific year leading the team in scoring.  Robert Uemoto shot in the other goal, his 3rd of the year.

The other teams to qualify for the Division I State Tournament are Moanalua, Aiea, Kaiser, and Castle. 

The Menehune have also had a surprising run in the playoffs.  Coming in with a losing record initially at 4-6-2,  they surprised everyone with a dominant upset of East #2 Kaiser 4-0 in the 2nd round.  They finish in 3rd place and carry their momentum into the States with a 7-7-2 record.

In the White Championship Game,  Kahuku held off the “Cinderella” Farrington Governors 1-0.  Noble Corwell, the leading scorer for the Red Raiders, punched in the only goal of the game.  Crowell has been dominant in the OIA Playoffs with 5 goals, including 2 each in the Mckinley and Waipahu games.

Kahuku will have a top seed in the State Tournament for Division II.  Other OIA qualifiers are Kailua and Mckinley.

The surprise team of the Red Division Playoffs has been the Roughriders from Roosevelt.  The East #5 Seed defeats Aiea 2-1 to advance to the Championship Game on Saturday.  They will take on Mililani, which defeated the other “Cinderella” team in Moanalua, 2-1.  The Trojans will have the benefit of playing on their home field for the title match to be played at 6:30p.

Leslie Nwapa comes through again with another goal for Roosevelt.  He has been their leading scorer this season and had a goal yesterday in the win over Castle.  Kevin Leong shot in the other goal, his first of the post season.

Aiea’s Ricky Itagaki managed to get a shot in to prevent the shut out.  The Na’Alii will play in the 3rd place game on Friday at their home field at 7:00p against Moanalua.

Mililani’s Colin Lund and Alex Gustafson punched it in for the Trojans.  They will be the favorites in the Title Game but will be very aware of the level of play coming from Roosevelt.

In the White Division, Kahuku defended their home field and ousted Mckinley 2-0.  They will play Kailua in the White Championship Game, as the Surfriders defeated Farrington 2-1 in an overtime shootout. 

The White Championship Game will be at 4:00p on Saturday at Mililani.
