Red Championship: Moanalua d. Kahuku 2-0

The
Moanalua Girls Volleyball Team has been here before.  Here being
the OIA Red Championship game.  As a perennial power, the Menehune
have always been around at the end.  But they had never gone over
the hump to actually win the title.

The monkey is off the back tonight.

The
Menehune took care of business and defeated the #1 East Seed Kahuku in
2 games, 27-25, 25-15, and claimed the OIA Red Championship.  The
match took place at Mckinley??s Student Council Gymnasium in front of a
raucous crowd.

The first game seemed to be indicative of the level of play from both teams.
Outside
hitter Kaleinani Kabalis completely dominated her competition and
played one of her best all-around matches of the season.  She put
down 20 kills, hit .447, and also had a game high 17 digs, to help lead
her team to the upset victory.

Kaylee Ponce also contributed 5 kills, including game and match point.

??I
give the credit to our players,? said Moanalua Head Coach Tommy
Lake.  ??They really regrouped themselves after we had a couple of
losses in the season and they??ve really played well since the
tournament started.?

Kahuku went back and forth with the lead in
game 1.  They reached game point first but could not put it
away.  In Game 2 the Lady Red Raiders had difficulty handling the
Menehune serves right from the beginning.  They could not get into
an offensive flow and Moanalua took full advantage of it.

Leilani
Tafuna led the team with 8 kills.  Defensively Alayna Galeai had 4
blocks and libero Nina Blake was all over the floor with 10 digs.

White Championship: Farrington d. Mckinley 2-0

Mckinley
has been a dominant force in the White Division, earning the East #1
seed.  Right behind them in the East was Farrington.  As they
say, when it comes to the playoffs, it is a whole new ballgame.

The
Lady Governors brought their ??A? game when it counted, defeating
Mckinley 25-21, 25-21, to win the OIA White Division
Championship.  They should get one of the top seeds in the HHSAA
Division II State Tournament starting next week.

Coach Reagan
Agena??s crew put together a team effort with 4 players getting 5?
kills.  Part of the effort came from Brandy and Brandy.
Outside hitter Brandy Kahanaoi-Pimental registered 6 kills along with
Taiana Faafiti-Samuseva.  Setter Brandy Vergado-Duclayan
distributed the ball well to keep the Tiger defense guessing.  She
also contributed 5 kills, along with middle blocker Keui Remigio.

??I
just told them to stay focused, relax, and play your game,? said
Agena.  ??Last time we played them I think our girls were too
tense.?

For the Lady Tigers, Juri Franzen and Pearly Togiai had
5 kills each.  Letiera Iafeta and Naleo Luis-Mateo played well in
the back row, each with 8 digs.
